'A New Modulation Method for a 13-Level Asymmetric Inverter that Operates with Minimum THD' Eduardo E. Espinosa N.
The asymmetric inverter features different DC link voltages for each power cell.
Depending on the used DC voltage ratio there exists binary, trinary, etc., asymmetric
inverters. In particular, the trinary one can provide a waveform with 3n
levels, where n
is the number of cells connected in cascade. For n= 3, an output voltage with 27
levels is obtained, ensuring a low THD = 3% and low dv/dt. However, when the load
consumes power, some cells of the inverter can operate in regeneration mode,
complicating the topology and control. To overcome thisproblem, a new modulation
method for asymmetric inverters is presented. It features an output voltage of 13
levels, and ensures an unidirectional power flow from the inverter to the load. This
new modulation method gives a voltage waveform with low dv/dtand reduced THD
(5.7%). To confirm the approach, a power flowand sensitivity analysis to changes in
the VDC ratios are performed. Finally, simulation and experimental results are
provided. |
